South Norwich News was launched in January 2010. Before setting up it up, I worked as a reporter and producer for the BBC.
South Norwich News is part of a small media revolution that’s spreading across the UK. It’s small scale journalism, done on a budget, but we seek to address some of the issues which plague today’s news outlets. To find out more about why we wanted to offer an alternative to the established media read: “Join a small media revolution.”
Our website was quoted at a recent new media conference as a good example of how the broadcast landscape is changing. While people are turning to their iphones and laptops for news they are still interested in what’s happening where they live. They want local news to be relevant: which is what we aim to provide.
South Norwich News has just won funding to help develop the commercial side of the site. We also plan to build a “community toolkit”, to help local people access funding for projects they want to get off the ground.
As our readership grows, more people are becoming contributors, offering their views on local issues which matter to them. Andrew Stronach, Nick O’Brien and Stefan Rider have all written opinion pieces, while many others have contributed story ideas, photos and video footage.
I live with my family in south Norwich.
Claire Wood, Editor of South Norwich News.
