A south Norwich band released their debut single this week, recorded by a producer who’s worked with the likes of Oasis and The Stone Roses. It’s the big break the band’s been waiting for.

Nick Brine is the producer who could make the difference for local band, The Black Sharks. This summer he invited them to record at Rockfield Studios in Wales, where they worked on their debut album. Nick Brine has worked with bands such as The Darkness, The Arctic Monkeys and Oasis.

The Black Sharks is made up of five local musicians: Peter Lee, Jay Benstead, Giles Davis, Paul Smith and Al Rapp. With talk of gaining airplay on stations like BBC 6Music and a feature in The Guardian, momentum behind the band is growing. Lead singer, Peter Lee said: “We’ve all worked really hard on this and we’re really proud of the single we’ve produced.”

The video, shot in Waxham and directed by Norwich-based Guy Myhill, was shown at a launch night at Frank’s Bar. In an era when it takes around 4000 downloads to gain chart success, this song could have what it takes. The single “Lose Control” is available to download and an album is due for release in Spring 2011.
