Two men who carried out a “terrifying” robbery with a machete have been jailed for a total of almost six years.
Dail Sear-Trevor, 20, and Martyn Swarbrick, 19, robbed Stuart’s newsagents on Hall Road in June.
According to police, as the pair entered the store with their faces masked, they shoved an elderly male customer to the floor before threatening a shop worker with a machete. The worker fled to the stock room, locking himself in while Sear-Trevor and Swarbrick cut the till wire with the machete before running off with it and its £350 cash contents.
Police were called to the scene and a detailed search of the area resulted in the culprits being detained.
Investigating officer, Det Con Roland Philpin from Norwich CID, said: “This was a very serious incident and a very terrifying experience for the people involved. The fact both defendants pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity demonstrates how strong the case was against them. They were arrested within hours of the incident happening and charged two days later.”
Sear-Trevor, of Hall Road, Norwich, was sentenced to 39 months imprisonment and Swarbrick was jailed for 33 months.
