£9M primary in pipeline

Plans for a brand new primary in Cringleford will be considered by county councillors tomorrow. The 420-place school has the backing of Norwich diocese and the parish council, although concerns have been raised about more traffic in the village. The plans now hinge on securing a funding deal with the developers at Round House Park.

Cringleford CE VA Primary is a high performing school,  with 210 places, which are currently oversubscribed. Under the plans, the school would be sold, and replaced by a brand new building within the Round House Park development. It would be designed with use by the wider community in mind.

A consultation process showed broad support for the proposals. Of those who objected, the main concern was the impact of traffic on Colney Lane, if parents dropped their off children there by car. A traffic impact analysis has been commissioned to look into the traffic implications of moving to a new site, the results of which will be available by the end of April.

The £9.3 million school will be funded partially through developer contributions of up to £2.285. This would allow the developers to build a further 315 dwellings at Round House Park, in addition to the existing 750 that have already been granted planning permission. The rest of the cost would be met by the sale of the site, the school itself and by Norfolk County Council.

The recommendation to county councillors is to approve the proposal, subject to completing an agreement with the developers over funding and gaining consent to sell off the existing playing fields. According to the report, the aim is to improve the quality of education locally and to contribute to the cohesion of a growing and changing community.
