A bar on Earlham Road wants to allow customers to sit outside on summer evenings. A handful of objections means the council’s licensing committee will have to consider the application next month.

Under the current licensing arrangements, The Workshop is restricted from letting customers to eat or drink outside the front of their premises after 8pm. No alcoholic drinks are allowed in the rear courtyard either. As a result the cafe/bar has applied for the flexibility to serve customers outside until 11pm, from May through to September.

Warren Bryant, who runs The Workshop said: “Customers can’t understand why they have to come indoors at 8 0′clock on a nice summer’s evening. They think it’s ridiculous and the restrictions make it very difficult for my staff.”

5 objections have been received by the city council, citing parking and noise as reasons not to allow the application to go ahead. The council’s Licensing Committee will consider the application on September 13th.
