Thousands of pounds worth of food has had to be thrown away, after a fuse broke at the Co-op store on Earlham Road. The fridges and freezers at the Co-op store had to be emptied yesterday, after staff were forced to thrown away chilled and frozen food.
A spokesperson for The Co-operative said: “We can confirm that a broken fuse in our Earlham Road store caused some of our storage fridges and freezers to break down on Tuesday (27 September) at around 8:00pm.
The incident resulted in a quantity of meat and dairy products exceeding the recommended storage temperature levels, and therefore had to be disposed of as per food safety procedures. The issue was resolved overnight on Tuesday, and additional stock will be delivered on Friday 30 September, to ensure that stock levels remain high.
“While we take the issue of food waste very seriously, and have a number of group-wide initiatives in place to address this issue, the health and safety of our customers is always of the utmost importance.”

could you be more specific? a fuse broke, where? in the freezers or in the power supply to the store? doesn’t sound plausible that a single fuse can jeapardise an entire food store..
