Local people are being asked how Chapelfield Gardens could be improved. As one of the city’s most popular parks, the aim is to find the right balance between offering more for young people to do, while retaining its historic character.

Currently the gardens, which were opened in 1880, offer a toddler and juniors’ play area with games of petanque, giant chess and draughts. The gardens are used for different outdoor events hosted by Norwich City Council including an annual music festival and funfair.

Norwich City Council approved the allocation of almost £200,000 of developer contributions to Chapelfield Gardens in 2008. The information gathered at an event this Saturday will be used to draw up plans. These will go out to consultation in the spring.

Councillor Julie Brociek-Coulton (Lab), cabinet member for neighbourhoods said: ”Chapelfield Gardens is one of the city’s most well known parks and enjoyed by so many people. It is very important to us that people who use and love the gardens have their say on what improvements they would like to see.”

The event will be in Chapelfield Gardens on Saturday 9th October between 10am and 4pm. People can also add their views by calling 01603 212496 or emailing jeffcompton@norwich.gov.uk
