Contenders for Wheelbarrow Top Ten

With just a few days to go, hundreds of students are feverishly adding the finishing touches to their wheelbarrows.

Almost 2000 students will take to the streets of south Norwich in decorated wheelbarrows this weekend, in one of the UEA’s biggest charity events.

We’ll feature our favourites in the South Norwich News Wheelbarrow Top Ten.

Credit has to be given to the creativity and inginuity of the UEA students who each year work their magic on the humble garden wheelbarrow.

Last year’s winner was a JCB digger. But the entries ranged from Power Rangers to sailing boats, a bobsleigh to the cast of Austin Powers. The digger even had an inbuilt sound system, a homage to the event’s title Pimp my Barrow.

In the spirit of good natured competition, the entrants push their pimped wheelbarrow between four south Norwich pubs, raising money for charity as the go, before a good old-fashioned wheelbarrow race in Eaton Park. With an entry fee of £25, over £7000 has been raised for The Big C on the day tickets went on sale.
