A south Norwich drugs den has been shut down by police working in partnership with the City Council.

After hearing evidence from officers and the council’s anti-social behaviour and tenancy enforcement (ABATE) team, magistrates today agreed to close down a property on Walpole Street for 3 months.  This prevents anyone from remaining in the property or entering the property without incurring a fine or custodial sentence.

According to police, the premises near Chapelfield Gardens have been used by people for selling Class A drugs.

Sergeant Chris Brooks said “We are pleased with today’s outcome as the closure will help to remove Class A drugs and prevent drug dealing from going on in the city. The action will provide some relief and reassurance to the local residents who have been affected by the activity at the address. We would like to use this as a warning to others that drug dealing will not be tolerated.”

Under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003, police have the powers to close premises at which Class A drugs are being used, supplied or produced, and which are associated with serious nuisance or disorder.
