Members of Green Watch based at North Earlham Fire Station plan to race to the top of 3 mountain peaks within 24 hours.

The challenge is to climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mt Snowdon in under 24 hours, including the travelling. Two dedicated drivers from the watch, Phil Berry and Andy Heiginbotham, are in charge of getting the team to each of the peaks within 11 hours, covering 560 miles.

Watch manager Dave Peacock said: “Our goal is to do it under 20 hours. It means we’ll be running where it’s physically possible. Obviously there are certain areas where it’ll be too steep, but where it’s flat enough we’ll run, and where we can’t run, we’ll put our heads down and do a hard yomp. We have been doing a lot of training. We climbed 7 peaks within 3 days last week.”

The money raised by the firefighters based at North Earlham will go to the Fire Fighters’ Charity, who support firefighters and their families if they become injured or die at an incident. Every year, thousands of fire fighters are injured whilst protecting the public. 17,000 individuals are helped by the charity every year, including the victims of fires.

The firefighters from Green Watch – Ben Grant, Dave Peacock, Simon Forth, Phil Howitt, Jason Legg and Ian Stollworthy - intend to complete the three peaks challenge on June 22/23rd. They’re looking for sponsorship to reach their target of £3000.
