
Dozens of students. Hundreds of hours. One show.
On Tuesday, City College’s School of Creative Arts students have good reason to be nervous. Their job: to produce and perform a live show at Norwich’s Epic studios. It’s taken weeks of careful planning, choreography and design. It’ll be broadcast online, as well as in front of an audience of future employers.

The police are cracking down on late-night, anti-social behaviour around the UEA. Residents have complained of cars being vandalised, swearing and having to clear up vomit from their front gardens. Local schools have been raising money for the victims of last week’s earthquake in Haiti. At St Thomas More Catholic Junior School, they came up with the idea of wearing Hats for Haiti. So far they’ve raised over seven hundred pounds, with more still coming in, which has been sent to the charity Cafod. The aid charity for the Catholic church is working to supply water, food, medicines and shelter to the worst affected areas. The school will be given with an award for their fundraising, which will be presented to around thirty children during this Friday’s One Show on BBC1. The job of counting the money raised at Avenue Junior School is underway, following a non-uniform day yesterday in support of the Haitian Earthquake Disaster Fund.

South Norwich’s only academy school is extending its reach out to the local community – this time by offering access to its high tech gym. Perfect if you’ve put on a few pounds over Christmas.
In November, City Academy Norwich (formerly Earlham High School) invited the community to access its “Future Zone”, offering support on anything, from digital photography to surfing the net. The cold snap could see more emergency school closures, as staff struggle to get into work. Avenue Junior School warned that parents should check online early tomorrow morning, to see if the school is open. The makers of an online drama series, filmed on location at City College Norwich, have set their sights on tv.
South Norwich’s first academy is opening its doors to the local community. Hundreds have tested out the school’s ”Future Zone”, trying anything from wii fit to social networking. In the classrooms, there’s also evidence of change. One pupil has been excluded this term, compared to over thirty last year.
