Harford Park and Ride on Ipswich Road is one of the first places to get charging posts for electric cars.
Norwich is among the cities to have won £2.9 m funding to build a network of plug-in points across the region.
By the end of 2013, the network of plug-in places should be no more than 25 miles apart. Shops, public car parks, railways stations and local businesses are all possible locations for plug-in points.
Announcing the selection last year, Transport Secretary Philip Hammond said: “A few years ago, ultra-low emission cars with mass market appeal appeared just a pipe dream. Now they are a reality and we can have all the convenience of the car without the carbon that normally goes with it.”
Four charging posts have been installed so far: two at Harford Park and Ride and two at the Airport Park and Ride. The ‘Plugged-in Places’ roll-out is being undertaken by a not-for-profit company called Evalu8. The power is supplied by Ecotricity at no cost to Norfolk County Council.
