Yesterday’s heavy downpours have left a local pre-school mopping up for a second time.
Flash floods have damaged children’s play equipment at St Peter’s Pre-School on Park Lane. Having been flooded once before, staff had taken the precaution of storing most of the equipment off the ground. But heavy rain came into a storage cupboard, hallway and part of the main play room, damaging gym mats and craft equipment.
Supervisor Louise Tims said:”It was pretty bad. I had to take my shoes off and roll up my trousers to mop it all up.” 2 years ago the damage was worse, when staff were not alerted to the flood damage for 3 days, by which time the water had seeped into carpets and cupboards.
Fortunately term doesn’t start at St Peter’s until September 6th, giving staff time to clear up the mess and disinfect the floors before the children return. The pre-school has just a few spaces remaining for the new term. St Peter’s caters for 64 children daily between 8am-6pm.
As previously reported, St Peter’s Pre-School hopes to move to new premises next door to Avenue Junior School in the new year.
They’re appealing for anyone who could donate items such as gym mats to get in touch. Email Louise on canaries184@hotmail.co.uk.
