Norwich-cityThe quick thinking of a specialist cardiac nurse helped save the life of a fellow football fan at Saturday’s game. Simon Bowles, who lives on the Avenues, stepped in when he saw a man nearby having a heart attack. He carried out life support on the man, aided by two GPs, before paramedics arrived to take the patient to the Norfolk and Norwich University hospital.

The brother of the heart-attack victim posted his thanks online on the Pinkun’ messageboard, saying his brother was ”attended by two fans who were brilliant along with the medics. He is now in hospital and certainly looks a lot better and is having all the tests! Thanks to you two guys and everyone else who helped.”

The fans’ efforts were aided by the fact Carrow Road has an electronic defibrillator. Simon Bowles said: “It makes a real difference having access to an automated electronic defibrillator and it gives you a fighting chance. The club stewards and St John Ambulance were on hand quickly and all praise to them. The patient is now comfortable and on the road to recovery.”
