September sees one of the biggest events in the cycle speedway calender being staged in Eaton Park. The Grand Prix of Great Britain attracts riders from across the country and from abroad.

Qualifying heats resulted in 5 local riders gaining a place on the day. The organisers are expecting a large crowd. Each race lasts around 45 seconds and as Ian Grange from Norwich Cycle Speedway says: “It’s a contact sport so you do get quite a lot of crashes.”

Next August Bank Holiday, cycle speedway’s biggest event, the British National Championships will also be staged in Eaton Park. Since 2003, Norwich Cycle Speedway Club have worked with the City Council on making improvements, successfully bidding for grants to bring the track up to a national standard.

The event on Saturday September 18th follows on from the Tour of Britain, which will come through Norwich for the first time on Thursday 16th.
