Three prominent councillors won’t be standing for The Green Party in the next local elections.
They include Adrian Ramsay, who campaigned to become MP for Norwich South during last year’s general election.
Norwich’s Green party has announced who will be standing in this May’s local elections. 13 candidates will soon begin campaigning ahead of the election on May 5th 2011.
Three well-known candidates will not be standing this time, including Green Party national deputy leader, Adrian Ramsay.
Explaining his decision, Adrian said: “I really enjoy being a councillor for the area where I grew up but I’ve decided, at least for the moment, to concentrate more on my national role as Deputy Leader of the Green Party. I will continue to actively campaign on local issues. We have a very strong list of candidates for this election and I am looking forward to canvassing to support them.”
Tom Dylan, the current Lord Mayor and Mancroft councillor, has decided to explore other work opportunities. Rupert Read, who has been a Wensum ward councillor for 7 years, is to focus on his academic work as well as his involvement with politics at a regional and national level, having previously stood in the European elections.
The Green Party currently has 14 city councillors, and is the main opposition group to Labour. The full list of Green Party candidates for the election in south Norwich is: Robert Laird, University ward; Jeremy Bartlett, Eaton ward; Denise Carlo, Nelson ward; Megan Lewis, Penny Edwards, Lakenham ward; Stephen Little, Town Close ward.
