The head of Eaton Primary has been suspended. Diana Neville-Jones was due to leave the school this summer after resigning earlier this year, but was suspended on Friday. Police have confirmed they are investigating the matter.
A letter has been sent to parents of children at Eaton Primary, explaining that the school’s deputy, Jeremy Johns, will be acting head while the matter is investigated.
Victoria McDonald, Chair of Governors at Eaton Primary School, said: “We can confirm that our headteacher Diana Neville-Jones is currently suspended following an alleged incident. This to ensure a full and fair investigation can take place.” “We are working with the County Council to ensure we follow all of the correct procedures and guidance. As the investigation is ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
In these cases, the police have to be informed. A police spokesperson said: “This matter has been referred to police under agreed procedures but we cannot comment further whilst this is being investigated.”
Diana Neville-Jones, formerly Ellis, joined the school before Fairway First and Middle Schools merged to become Eaton Primary but decided earlier this year to step down from the post. Interviews for the new head are due to be held this Thursday and Friday. The successful candidate would start in January 2011. The school is looking for someone who has “the ability to lead, manage and motivate a highly talented team” and who would ”work alongside, and in partnership with, the Governors to manage the school to the highest standards of attainment”.
