Jenny Lind 3Work to transform a “bleak and unattractive park” on Vauxhall Street is finally underway and should be finished by Spring 2010.

The new Jenny Lind park reflects what residents said they wanted; a safe, open place everyone could enjoy. In a densely populated area that’s attracted anti-social behaviour in the past, many wanted to reclaim the park for local people.

Over three hundred thousand pounds has been spent on the redevelopment, funded by the developers of the former Norfolk and Norwich hospital site.

Councillor Susan Sands, executive member for neighbourhood development says: “We know this has been a long time coming, but it was very important that we listened to the views of as many local people as possible to find out their wants and needs for their park. We hope Jenny Lind Park will be somewhere local people can be proud of.”

The tarmaced toddlers’ play area  will be replaced with grass and a sensory garden. The new toddler and junior area, near Bignold School, includes an exploration zone. Children from the school were involved in drawing up the plans. The corner set aside for older children has been redesigned, allowing space for teens to socialise and a zone with more challenging equipment. There will be two football and basketball courts, for use by different age groups.
