Labour retains power at City Hall

It was a good night for Labour last night in the City Council elections, as they gained 2 seats from the Conservatives. The Greens also gained Thorpe Hamlet.

It means City Hall will be continue to be run by a minority Labour administration, with the balance of power Labour 18; Green 15, Lib Dems 4 and Conservatives 2.

In south Norwich, the parties held on to their seats, despite the Greens, Liberal Democrats and Labour all fielding new candidates in 3 of the seats.

It means Nelson remains Green, where Denise Carlo won 2059 votes. Town Close also stays Green with 1763 going to Stephen Little. Eaton stayed Liberal Democrat, with Caroline Ackroyd winning by just 129 votes from the Conservatives. University stayed solidly Labour with Sarah Grenville retaining the seat for the party. Lakenham also stayed Labour, with Keith Driver winning with 1244 votes.

The question of who will lead the minority Labour administration is not known yet, as the leader of Norwich City Council, Steven Morphew, stepped down at this election.
