A Norwich factory has joined the Custard Cream and the Mini, on a map of modern manufacturing.
The ’Made By Britain’ initiative is organised by MPs, launched by the Business Secretary, Vince Cable.
The objective of the project is to draw up a diverse and comprehensive picture of modern British industry. Britvic, who make Robinsons squash off Martineau Lane, have been nominated alongside the Custard Cream, made in Carlisle and the Mini, made in Oxford.
Lib Dem MP for Norwich South, Simon Wright, chose the factory: “Robinsons is a globally-recognised British brand whose products are manufactured locally. Its history and heritage are tied to the city. Founded in 1823, Robinsons was acquired by Colmans of Norwich at the start of the last century, and today under Britvic’s ownership it makes an important contribution to the local economy[...]I’m delighted to nominate Robinsons squash for the ‘Made By Britain’ project. It deserves a prominent place on the map of British manufacturing success.”
Britvic is the largest squash factory in the world, employing 290 people, and producing 700 million bottles of Robinsons drinks eachyear.
