A Golden Triangle pub has closed, just months after it opened.
The Earlham Arms was refurbished throughout when it opened to customers in August.
Signs have gone up outside The Earlham Arms announcing they’ve closed. They ceased trading on Thursday, posting on Facebook: “In case you haven’t heard already tonight is the last night of the Earlham Arms :-( come see us tonight for some farewell drinks.”
It’s the latest in the chequered history of the pub: just a year earlier it opened as The Schoolhouse, geared towards the student market, but had its license put under review after complaints from neighbours about noise and rowdy behaviour. Prior to that it traded as The Fountain and The Pickwick.
With the new name of The Earlham Arms, the sky blue exterior was painted green and the interior returned to a traditional pub, serving real ales. Early in the football season, the pub proved successful in attracting a lot of weekend trade by showing every single Norwich Premiership game, home or away. Their strategy was also to attract regulars back into the pub, rather than tapping into the student market.
The pub, which had its garden space extended as The Earlham Arms, may reopen under another new guise. According to the pub’s Twitter account: ”Originally meant to be a change of owners but they decided to gut it and make it a restaurant.”
the schoolhouse totally alienated its neighbours with vomiting, screaming students cleverly singing UEA! UEA! into the early hours apparantly, walking out with bottles and smashing glasses. idiot management. idiot customers. time gentleman please! south norwich deserves better.

hmm. period property, affluent foodie orientated locals, lots of parking, close to city centre. The Eagle does a roaring trade on Newmarket Road, it must take some skill for this place not to turn a profit ! get some bangers n mash and adnams going and I’ll be there!
