A man has been charged after a young boy was attacked by a bull dog in Norwich yesterday.

Police arrived at Goldsmith Street, just off Dereham Road, to find a 10 year boy had suffered serious injuries to his right arm and two dogs, a Staffordshire terrier and bull dog, were initially seized by police. The boy was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

20 year old Nathan Atkins, of Goldsmith Street, Norwich, has been charged with allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control in a public place and cause injury. Atkins will appear at Norwich Magistrates Court on Tuesday 19 July.

A 44-year-old woman arrested in connection with the incident has been released without charge and the second dog – a Staffordshire terrier- which belonged to the woman, has been returned. Procedures are being followed to seek destruction of the dog responsible.
