Painters and sculpturers are again opening their doors to the public this weekend.

Over 200 studios are taking part in Norfolk Open Studios, including a group of artists based off Earlham Road.

Eight artists in the south Norwich area have come together to offer one of this year’s Open Studios Art Trails. Members of the public can see artists at work and sample local pubs and cafés as part of a day out. The artists explain the process they go through, from sketchbook to finished canvas, and are happy to give tips to anyone interested in painting themselves.

The Art Trails are taking place across the county, but here in south Norwich they centre on streets such as Helena Road, Caenarvon Road and West Parade.

One of the artists, Vanna Bartlett, explains why she got involved: “It raises you profile as an artist, when you approach galleries with your work. We also all tend to beaver away in our studios on our own, so it’s nice to get some feedback.”

It’s a chance to meet artists in an informal setting, see and buy or commission artwork and discuss the techniques used to create the work. It’s estimated that 35,000 people got involved with Open Studios last year. William Galinsky, Artistic Director of the  Norfolk and Norwich Festival, who help organise the event said: “Norfolk Open Studios is a celebration of the county’s thriving visual arts community.”

The Earlham Road artists are opening weekends from Saturday 21st May- 5th June 2011 between 10-5pm.
