One of the contenders to become Labour’s next leader will be speaking in Norwich tomorrow night. He’ll be joined by one of his supporters - the drummer from Blur.
In a talk that’s open to the public, David Miliband will explain why he is running as a candidate for the leadership of the Labour Party. The talk will be followed by a debate on how Labour moves forward from here, following the party’s defeat at the general election in May.
One of his supporters, Dave Rowntree, who’s a member of the band Blur, will also speak at the event. Dave Rowntree is an active member of the Labour party, having stood in the Cities of London and Westminster seat in the last election.
A spokesperson from David Miliband’s campaign said: “Throughout his campaign, David has been keen to reach out and engage with Party members across the country. This event will be a great opportunity to hear directly from David his ideas for the country and his vision for the country.” Next month on Sept 5th, Norwich will become the venue for a live televised debate between all the leadership candidates.
Throughout David Miliband’s leadership campaign, 1000 “future leaders” have been trained to become active in their local communities. Some of them will light up West Pottergate tomorrow evening with fairy lights, as part of a campaign against plans to switch off street lights in Norwich from midnight to 5am.
Tomorrow’s event is at St Mark’s Hall on Hall Road. Anyone who wants to attend should email secretary@norwichlabour.org.
