Archaeologists working on 17 skeletons discovered when Chapelfield Shopping Centre was built say they’ve unearthed something interesting.

A BBC documentary revealing what they’ve found will be screened next month.

The transmission date for the BBC documentary about the 17 skeletons, mostly children, has not yet been set. But those working on the film have gone very tight-lipped because of what they’ve uncovered. The production company say they may release some details a week or so before transmission, but the full story won’t be revealed until the story goes to air.

The bodies were unearthed when Chapelfield Shopping Centre was built 7 years ago. Local archaeologists have been piecing together how the 17 skeletons died for the History Cold Cases series.  Some pre-filming has already been done by the BBC near Chapelfield. Techniques such as carbon dating, CT scans and DNA testing should reveal more about who the people were and how they came to be buried together.

History Cold Cases should be shown on BBC2 in June 2011.
