City of Norwich School has received its latest report from Ofsted.
Inspectors found CNS on Eaton Road to be a “satisfactory and improving school” and the Sixth Form to be “good”. In the last inspection in 2004, the school was rated “good” overall, in a scale which ranges from 1 (outstanding) to 4 (inadequate).
In a letter to the school, the inspectors said: “Most lessons are satisfactory or better. Your teachers know their subjects well and they have good relationships with you. However, inspectors judge that there should be a greater focus on your learning in lessons, for example through sharper planning to meet individual needs…”
In a statement, the headteacher, Jim Nixon said: ”We are particularly pleased that the report recognises the good work that is taking place in the Sixth Form. Many of the initiatives successfully introduced here will now be cascaded throughout the school.”
The school has 1688 pupils on role and specialises in Technology and Arts. Each it is consistently oversubscribed, with around 50 children on the waiting list for Year 7 this year. The head continued: “[..]We are far from complacent and are already taking action in areas highlighted by inspectors as needing attention. This includes aiming to ensure all teaching reaches the good and outstanding levels seen during the inspection, which as Headteacher I would expect to see throughout the school.”
The full report is available online at the Ofsted website.
