Norwich is one of 66 locations chosen to for the show, staged by London 2012 in July. Local people, chosen by their community, will carry the Flame to an on-stage cauldron which will be lit at 7pm as part of a live broadcast.
The route will be lined with giant puppets, flags, bunting and human pyramids on Wednesday 4th July 2012.
Leader of Norwich City Council Brenda Arthur said: “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for our communities across the county to join in with the Olympic celebrations in 2012 [..] Our vision is that this will be a whole city celebration welcoming the Torch to the streets of Norwich.”
Sebastian Coe, Chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG), said: “We have no doubt that Norwich City Council will help to stage an evening celebration event that captures the excitement, passion, and spirit of the Olympic Torch Relay as it comes to rest at Chapelfield Gardens.”
The Olympic Flame will eventually arrive at the Olympic Stadium on Friday 27th July for the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Games.
Today the city council launched a new web page giving more information about how people can get involved with their communities, clubs, businesses and schools.
