Work gets underway today on the first stage of building a rapid bus route into the city. But the thorny issue of the Heigham/Dereham Road junction has yet to be resolved…
Over the next month, work will start on widening the Grapes Hill’s Hill junction with St Benedict’s and making some changes along Dereham Road. These are to allow a fast, frequent bus service along Dereham Road from areas such as Longwater and Bowthorpe.
After Christmas, new traffic lights will be put in at the bottom of Grapes Hill, and new sections of the 24 hour city-bound bus lane will be created. Twenty buses currently use the road in peak periods.
A spokesperson for Norfolk County Council said: “During the period running up to Christmas, the works have been programmed to minimise the impact on Christmas shopping traffic[..] No work is proposed at the Dereham Road/Old Palace Road/Heigham Road junction at this stage, as options for this junction are still being developed.”
Over 200 people signed a petition calling for the changes to this junction to be re-drawn, concerned that their roads would be turned into rat runs.

It would help if a map showing how, alongside exsisting traffic lanes, the (24hr; WHY?) bus lane will run, when completed.
Thank you
