A local primary has taken over running its own canteen and is serving up vegetables grown on site.In part of a drive to get pupils interested in food, Cavell Primary School has started growing its own food, and is serving it up in the canteen. Pupils get to help plant and harvest the food, and have a say on how it should be used on the menu.
The school has taken over running the canteen from contractors and has removed the trays – preferring to serve the food from dishes put on the tables. The school’s head teacher, Simon Wakeman, said they’d be looking to further the project in the autumn with a harvest festival.
