The Sikh community turned out in force today to parade through south Norwich, in celebration of gaining their first temple in the city.
Around 250 of the local Sikh community walked from Eaton Parish Hall, where they’ve been worshipping until now, to their new temple just off Dereham Road. 21 families have come together to buy a property on Old Palace Road which has been turned into a place of worship. Until now, the nearest temple for them to travel to was in Ipswich.
The procession took 2 hours, as a float carrying their holy book along Newmarket Road and Chapelfield Road, before going down Grapes Hill onto Dereham Road. President of the Norwich Sikh Community, Chanan Singh Suwali said it was a very proud day for them all.
