Ideas for how the N&N can save money are starting to make a dent in the target of £30 million. A monthly competition is running for the best money-saving suggestions.
A range of suggestions have been made by staff since the competition was launched at the beginning of the hospital’s financial year. One idea questioned whether admin staff should wear uniform, or whether they could just wear smart clothes. Another idea surrounds procurement. The Norfolk and Norwich University Trust is looking at how to buy items more cost effectively, perhaps by working with other hospitals, ordering on a larger scale.
Pharmacy staff have made a start by ensuring unused goods, such as tablets, are returned, saving the Trust around £100, 000 per year. The hospital’s QIPP (Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention) programme is focusing both on how to increase productivity and reduce costs.
A spokesperson for the hospital said reaching the target of £30 million will be a “tall order” but will have to be met somehow.
