The makers of an online drama series, filmed on location at City College Norwich, have set their sights on tv.
With thirty years of experience of documentary making, Norwich-based Eye Film and TV wanted to branch out, exploring a new kind in film making. The result was a drama, screened in 40 five minute episodes.
Involving students from City College in the crew, the makers filmed the four hours of drama for “Tempting Fates” inside 20 days. They held casting auditions online, allowed the actors to film much of the material themselves, and then streamed the series online and on the student channel, Freewire.
The black comedy, based on Greek mythology, stars three fates who are sent to earth to spice up the entertainment for the gods. Viewers were able to interact with the characters through Facebook, Twitter and their online blogs. The series finale was aired last week.
Now the makers are busily talking to sponsers and platforms such as Virgin to raise the profile of the drama. They set out to create something entirely new, and believe this is where the future lies for drama. Managing director of Eye TV and Film, based in Magdalen Street, Charlie Gauvain says: “We’ve had fantastic feedback from the hundreds of people who’ve watched it so far. We would love to get the series onto a tv platform.”
