A Facebook page has been set up for people to share their best Christmas left-over recipe ideas. Suggest an old family favourite or post photos of your creations. Local restaurants are also getting involved…
The campaign to get local people to ‘Give Food a Second Chance’ is gathering pace, with recipe ideas, from Chocolate Bread to Christmas panettone being submitted by local cafes and restaurants. It’s estimated households throw away around £50 worth of food each Christmas. As part of the campaign, a Facebook page has been set up, where you can add your best left-over recipe ideas.
Suggestions already include Spicy Chicken (or Turkey) Noodle Soup, Warm Fruit Salad and a Turkey and Cranberry Ring.
Ann Steward, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Development, Norfolk County Council, said: “Households throw away around 80% more food waste at Christmas than other times during the year. Using the expertise of the culinary sector in Norfolk will give residents a great way to use up those leftovers, rather than putting them into the bin.”
