The organisers of Norwich Wine Festival say there’s already a beer festival, and a food festival… so why not wine?

The Garden House

To take part, you buy a sheet of vouchers with a map of venues. One route is around The Golden Triangle; another is in the city centre. The Unthank Arms and The Garden House have already signed up. City venues include Pinocchio’s and St Benedict’s restaurants.

James Linder from The Garden House said: “We literally jumped at the chance to get involved. There are always beer festivals but not wine. It’s good to show people we’re not just a pub for beer and food.” At The Garden House customers may help pick a new house wine as part of the festival.

The vouchers entitle you to 6 samples, encouraging you to try different wines, as well as 9 glasses of wine. You can share sheets of vouchers between friends and try out venues you may not have visited before. A number of wine related events, such as tastings and talks, will be held throughout the month.

The Unthank Arms

One of the organisers, Emily Barclay, who set up The Perfect Wine 18 months ago, said: “It’s all happening at lightning speed. The idea came up in May and it made sense to run it at the same time as the food festival, so we’ve had to work really fast to get things organised.”

Three women are behind the festival, Emily Barclay, Amanda Wright, who runs Little Bird Web Services, and Rebecca Lewis Smith from the Fountain Partnership.

Tickets for the festival go on sale at the beginning of August.
