Officers are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision on Saturday afternoon, involving a lorry and six cars on the A47.

Just before 1pm, a heavy goods lorry was travelling east along the A47 when, close to the slip road at Trowse, it was in collision with a Ford Mondeo, before colliding with 5 other vehicles. Police say sadly the front seat passenger in the first car, Elizabeth Bird from Leighton Buzzard, received fatal injuries as a result of the collision.

The family of Mrs Bird, an Open University lecturer– husband Mike, and children David, Andrew and Jenny have made the following statement: “Our loss is going to be felt by everyone who knew her for she was loved by all. A more generous, warm, caring, lively, energetic person we will rarely know.”

PC Keith Wiseman, from the Serious Collision Investigation Team (SCIT), would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or has information concerning the manner of driving of any of the vehicles prior to the incident.
