Antony Little: Conservative

Apr 03, 2010, 08:16am By Claire Wood

Norwich is a great place to live, work and bring up a family. We should be proud of our City but be honest about our problems.

In Norwich the crime rate is among the lowest in England, yet we’re blighted by the fear of crime and anti-social behaviour. I support Conservative plans to reduce the paperwork burden on the police and get them visibly back on the street.

Our flagship hospital has thousands of operations cancelled each year. I support Conservative plans to scrap centrally-imposed targets, returning authority to medical staff and increasing spending on the NHS.

We have some great places to learn, including UEA and City College, but many of our schools have been in special measures. I welcome Conservative plans to shift the balance of power in the classroom back to teachers.

I believe that climate change is the biggest threat to our way of life. Moving to a low-carbon, sustainable economy is vital. I support Conservative plans to offer every household in Norwich up to £6,500 worth of home insulation improvements.

We lack a modern, sustainable public transport infrastructure in Norwich. I would press for the entire length of the A11 to be made a full dual carriageway and support the creation of a fast rail link and improved bus services around the City.

I am striving to be a local, independent-minded candidate who can offer something other candidates cannot – real life experience. I am a City resident and High School teacher. My family use local services, we rely on the NHS and I have an interest in improving our City for all. I am not another ‘career politician’. I understand the needs and concerns of Norwich residents because my family have the same needs and concerns. I would put Norwich and its residents first, always.

Antony Little, Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate, Norwich South.
