Simon Wright: Liberal Democrat

Apr 03, 2010, 08:23am By Claire Wood

I live in Norwich with my wife, Rosalind, and I care passionately about getting the best deal for our community. It would be a great honour to represent Norwich in parliament.

As MP, I will champion improvements to Norwich’s transport system: affordable and reliable bus services; improvements to the Norwich-London train service; and a better environment for cyclists and pedestrians. I want 20mph limits in all residential areas and a city-wide cycle hire scheme as many European cities successfully operate. Read More…

Adrian Ramsay: Green Party

Apr 03, 2010, 08:21am By Claire Wood

Norwich South voters can make a real impact at the General Election by electing a Green to Parliament to press for the creation of lasting jobs and protection of public services. After seven years as a councillor I have substantial experience of representing residents and getting Green policies implemented on a hung Council. This experience puts me in a good position to maximise the influence of Green MPs in a hung Parliament. Read More…

Steve Emmens: UKIP

Apr 03, 2010, 08:18am By Claire Wood

Steve Emmens 45 year old, standing for UKIP in Norwich South. Became interested in politics from the age of 18 years old, stood and was elected as a Conservative parish councillor in my home town in the 90s.

I strongly believe in standing up for my local people in Norwich South.  Already I have achieved getting a young single mum’s 2nd child into the same school as her big sister. Have had railing put in a disabled ladies garden so she can enjoy being outside more and a kitchen for a local young mum with three kids. Read More…

Antony Little: Conservative

Apr 03, 2010, 08:16am By Claire Wood

Norwich is a great place to live, work and bring up a family. We should be proud of our City but be honest about our problems.

In Norwich the crime rate is among the lowest in England, yet we’re blighted by the fear of crime and anti-social behaviour. I support Conservative plans to reduce the paperwork burden on the police and get them visibly back on the street.

Our flagship hospital has thousands of operations cancelled each year. I support Conservative plans to scrap centrally-imposed targets, returning authority to medical staff and increasing spending on the NHS. Read More…

What’s stopping kids biking to school?

Cycle training at Colman Junior

Cycle training at Colman Junior

Just 5 percent of pupils in south Norwich bike to school. This shockingly low figure raises the question- is it clucky parents or are there ligitamate concerns about traffic? Millions has been spent making journeys to school safer, but will the money make any difference?  Read More…

Entrepreneurs needed from early age

Feb 26, 2010, 11:42am By Claire Wood

Norwich has to create ”an entrepreneurial culture”, if it’s to grow into a city set for the 21st Century. That’s the view of leading business figurehead, Walter Herriot. To succeed in growing the economy, we need to create “an entrepreneurial climate from the cradle to the grave.” We might want to stop short of letting our kids sell their sisters in the playground, but essentially risk-taking should be encouraged from an early age.

Norwich market. Its future lies online

Feb 11, 2010, 10:29am By Claire Wood

Last week, I got a tweet saying “someone should talk Norwich Market into having an online shop.” The more I think about it, the more sense it makes.

The market already has a website. Its 190 stalls offer a huge variety. But while they have some fantastic fresh, local produce, its location limits the amount you can carry. If I could browse a website and then place an order, for say - fish, cheese, fresh fruit and veg –  to be delivered to my door, it would win my business over supermarkets who source for further afield. Why all eyes will be on South Norwich in 2010

Dec 28, 2009, 16:45pm By Claire Wood

Like it or not, 2010 will see a general election. As the electioneering begins, Norwich South will be one to watch for a number of reasons.

First off, it’s the seat of the former Home Secretary, Charles Clarke. Since winning it in 1997, he’s held a comfortable lead ahead of the other parties, gaining 37.7% of the vote in the last election. But a lot has happened since that election, enough to suggest it’s no longer a safe Labour hold. Watching how hard Charles Clarke fights to keep his seat will be interesting. Read More…
