After a difficult pregnancy and after talking to other women about their own health, I realised I wanted to do something to help women feel better about themselves.
As a result I launched Life After Birth, for women who don’t feel their minds and bodies have quite slotted back in the way they should after giving birth.
Now I’m widening this out to include all women, through “The Holistic Hub”.
Regular events will be staged locally, giving women a chance to access a wide range of advice and support.
While working with post-natal women, I didn’t only see those who’d just had their first babies, but also mothers who’d given birth up to 17 or 18 years previously. Problems with pelvic floors, lower backs, digestive problems, low immunity, stiff shoulders, headaches, lack of confidence, hormonal imbalances – numerous issues that these women felt were all hangovers from giving birth.
After a while, I wanted to open up things to include all women, offering complementary therapies to those with chronic and acute conditions as well as to women with on-going ‘niggles’, ‘discomfort’ and those so called ‘learn to live with’ conditions.
It struck me just how little information is around for everyday health issues. If you’re diagnosed with something, there are support networks around. But for the average woman on the street, like me, where do you go to get information on how to look after yourself? What do I do if I want to deal with a discomfort rather than just continue to cope?
Women’s needs are not one dimensional and so neither should the information or advice on offer. These things have got to be moulded around each woman and be in each woman’s best interest.
What better way to do this than proactively go out and connect with women and the businesses that can offer them support. As a result, I’ve set up The Holistic Hub, with events, I call Pop Ups every few months in intimate venues around Norwich.
Each Pop-Up will allow woman to try treatments & tasters: talk to practitioners, therapists, specialists and get the info and any advice they may need. The purpose of these evenings are to give women space and time to think about their health, reassess how they’re feeling and show them some of the options open to them.
The next Pop-Up Holistic will be in central Norwich in April.
