Across the city, many people will now be considering which candidates – and which parties – they ought to support.
We all recognise that these are difficult times – with huge pressure on the public purse – which will have an impact on City Hall.
Some parties will run negative campaigns – focusing on other parties – but the Conservatives will set out a positive programme of ideas which we believe will make the City better.
Some parties will have grand schemes that they want to achieve – but we want to get back to basics at City Hall and make sure people receive a good level of service, regardless of where you live – particularly when it comes to issues like ground maintenance. We all pay council tax and we all deserve the services that come from that tax. The Conservatives will prioritise getting all the small things right in running our council.
We will stand up to developers across the city – making sure Planning Applications are consulted on with local people and making sure developers honour their legal agreements to maintain their land until it is adopted by the council.
We will freeze Council Tax – looking to make savings out of Councillors’ perks as well as cutting back on red tape.
We will review our Customer Service targets, so you spend less time waiting to find out what is happening with the issues you raised. This will include targets for Conservative Councillors as well, not just members of staff.
And we will run a completely transparent Council where all salaries over £50,000 and details of all expenditure over £500, along with Councillors Allowances and Expenses, are published online in full detail and in real-time.
Most importantly, we will work with local residents and community groups to find out what you want to happen in your area; encourage more participatory budgeting and offer people the chance to change what happens in their neighbourhood.
