Streets could become car-free

Residents in south Norwich can apply to shut their streets to allow their children to play outside safely after school.

Norwich City Council has welcomed the idea, agreeing to keep “red tape to a minimum” if any residents want to apply.

But the council will levy a fee for the closure.

A plan has been put forward to save an historic part of Norwich.

At a packed public meeting last month, residents made their opposition clear to plans to build on the city’s former cricket ground in Lakenham.

Now, one councillor has suggested a way forward.

Crowds turn out for official opening of accessible path through Eaton marshland.

Sarah Fincham, who regularly uses the area in her wheelchair, whatever the weather said: “It’s absolutely brilliant. I love it. I used to use it all the time but would regularly get stuck and have to be pulled out of the mud.”
