As key Tory education reforms are debated in the Commons, one local politician has taken a stand against the Government’s plans. The academies bill would allow parents to set up their own schools and pave the way for hundreds more academies.

Over in our Opinion section, Adrian Ramsay, the deputy leader of the Green Party, argues the bill is a step in the wrong direction.
