The closure of many schools in January due to the snow prompted an investigation. Some unhappy parents reported “a culture within schools of taking the easy way out”. A report suggests headteachers do not take the decision lightly, but schools should have a clear plan to deal with all types of emergency closures.
The icy conditions this winter have prompted calls to improve the way Norwich copes with dangerous, slippery pavements. City councillors want more grit boxes and better publicity, explaining the public can use them themselves during bad weather. The Norfolk and Norwich University hospital saw the number of fractures they treated double during the wintry conditions.

A network of key roads in Norwich has been identified, in the case of another cold snap before the city’s salt supplies can be topped up.

Thousands of staff at the N&N University hospital have been thanked by bosses for their efforts to get into work today, despite the snow. Many left for work early, while others left their cars at home and walked.
Chairman David Prior said; “It has been very striking just how many staff have made every effort to get to our hospitals in order to maintain services for our patients. Our staff deserve our sincere thanks for going the extra mile in this morning’s appalling weather.” Read More…
